Fallout from the 2024 presidential election has created emotional turmoil for some as they struggle to come to terms with how future political decisions could impact them and their loved ones. When you add on the traditional tensions associated with the holidays and family gatherings, it can all seem emotionally overwhelming.
A recent survey conducted by California State University, Northridge’s Valley Nonprofit Resources reveals a staggering 93% of local nonprofit organizations are facing a critical need for charitable donations and pro-bono support to sustain their services. Concerningly, one-third of these nonprofits are also bracing for potential revenue declines in the coming year.
There are more than 4,000 nonprofits in the San Fernando Valley and, if Alejandra Acuña has her way, California State University, Northridge faculty, staff and students will be working with each and every one of those organizations to ensure they are successful in transforming the communities they serve.
It isn’t enough to want their students to succeed, higher education leaders have a responsibility to identify and uproot the vestiges of historic racism that permeate academic spaces and can stand in the way of their students’ success, according to a team of researchers at California State University, Northridge.
