After wrapping a busy academic year, CSUN faculty and staff got a chance to kick back and welcome the arrival of summer. On June 18, the university hosted the annual Faculty and Staff Summer Celebration at the Student Recreation Center, to show appreciation to CSUN employees.
Jessica Worland, a domestic graduate admissions advisor in the Office of Graduate Studies, noted the value of more casual events for faculty and staff.
“It is important to connect, not just in a professional setting, [but] to have fun — and it’s great to meet people in other departments,” Worland said.
Sumaya Bezrati, a lecturer in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, agreed, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to mingle with other CSUN faculty. “A lot of us don’t really get to know each other because [professors] have such sporadic teaching schedules, especially with virtual classes, so this gives us a chance to actually see and connect with coworkers,” Bezrati said.
The Summer Celebration included a taco buffet and various activities for CSUN faculty and staff and their families, including a bouncy castle, rock climbing, photo booth, craft station, and games such as giant Connect Four and table tennis. The event also featured a raffle, where participants could win prizes such as CSUN hats, bags, cups and mystery gifts.
