Break out the coffee and study guides, finals season is here! But don’t worry, there are resources available for students to finish the semester strong. The University Student Union (USU) is hosting Crunch Time from Monday, Dec. 2, through Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall. Students can use study rooms, get free supplies and fuel up on coffee and snacks.

Key Study Spots and Ways to De-stress

University Library:

The University Library offers extended hours for finals, Dec. 8-16. The library will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily. 

The library will also be hosting events to help students get through this stressful time. 

Monday, Dec. 9. Arts & Crafts: In the library lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., students can color, make buttons and create sculptures with Play-Doh. Coloring supplies will also be available all week.  

Tuesday, Dec. 10. Guided Meditation: Through a collaboration with the Klotz Student Health Center, students can meditate in Room 251 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 11. Therapy Dogs: Pet and play with dogs outside on the southeast corner of the library portico from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

In addition, there is a graffiti board in the Learning Commons where students can vent their frustrations about finals or share words of affirmation with fellow Matadors.

Finals Survival Kits and complimentary Scantron testing forms will be available to students at the Guest Services desk beginning Friday, Dec. 6, until supplies last. 

There are also gaming opportunities like virtual reality games in the Creative Media Studio and the CSUN Board Game and Tabletop Club will host board games in the Automated Storage and Retrieval System room. 

Oasis Wellness Center: The USU’s Oasis Wellness Center is open to students throughout the year. Take a nap or meditate in one of the many relaxing gardens. Download the Student Recreation App on iOS or Android to make a reservation at The Oasis.

Sierra Center Plaza: Grab a table under one of the bright red umbrellas across from the B3 parking structure and enjoy studying while squirrel-watching and sipping on your favorite caffeinated beverage.

Freudian Sip: Pick up a snack or an energizing drink from Freudian Sip (locations in Sierra Center, University Library, USU and Arbor Court). Freudian Sip also serves hot tea, lemonade and many more beverage and food options.

Campus Store Complex: Matadors have many choices for food on campus, including the Campus Store Complex, between the Sierra Quad and The Soraya. El Pollo Loco, Fry Shack, Panda Express and Sambazon Açaí Bowls all extend their hours during finals. There’s also the Matador Mercado (mini convenience store), where you can grab a couple of snacks and a drink. For hours and a full list of locations, see “Where to Eat” on the CSUN app, available for Android and iOS.

Orange Grove and Duck Pond: This campus location is the perfect spot to take a break and relax outdoors. Bring snacks, your favorite book, and spend time watching the ducks and turtles frolic in the pond.

LRC: The Learning Resource Center (University Library, 3rd floor) is the place to go for all your tutoring needs. Sharpen your skills and worry less about passing your exams by making an appointment at the Writing Center; The Science, Math, and Related Topics (SMART) Lab, or participate in a monthly workshop.

Pride Center: The CSUN Pride Center at the USU offers a variety of events through the end of the semester. Join the conversations at T-Time, Coffee Night or Let’s Talk events. Allies and members of the LGBTQIA+ community are always welcome to partake in any and all events. Located on the 2nd floor of the Sol Center in the USU.
