As a new semester begins, Matadors have a wealth of tools and resources available to make the most of life on campus and set themselves up for success. One of the most essential? Your MataCard!

An all-digital ID, MataCard is CSUN’s first true one-card system — an ID card on your phone that can link to a meal plan, serve as a key to dorms and other campus buildings, and a way to pay for grub and goods around campus. If you’re new here, or just haven’t tried all of MataCard’s functions, here’s your sign to sign up and get started!

“The MataCard is like connective tissue across campus,” said Nick Alexander, CSUN’s associate registrar and resident MataCard expert. “We partner with so many departments across campus, from the PPM (Physical Plant Management) lock shop to central IT and Student Housing.” About 24,000 people have active MataCards at CSUN, including approximately 3,000 employees, Alexander said.

Here are a few tips to get started, and what’s new for the spring semester:

New to CSUN, or to MataCard?

Ready to sign up? MataCard is accessible via your iPhone, Apple Watch or Android phone. Students will need to log in to the CSUN Portal using your CSUN user ID and password. Follow the steps here to upload a photo and get started.

Faculty and staff — whether new to campus or just to MataCard — will need to upload a photo, and then download the Transact eAccounts app in the App Store or Google Play.

Access the SRC

Ready to work out, sign up for massage therapy or reserve a nap pod? Use your MataCard! The Student Recreation Center (SRC) and Oasis Wellness Center recently integrated with the MataCard system, so students, faculty and staff alike can tap to check in at these facilities — rather than using a separate app. New students and new SRC members: Once you’ve digitally signed the waiver through the SRC app, add your MataCard to your Apple or Android wallet and tap to enter.

Use it at Campus Dining Locations and Save!

Anyone with a MataCard, including faculty and staff, can load money onto it and use it for purchases at all campus dining locations, said Mike Lennon, associate director of facilities and operations for The University Corporation. Campus dining also offers a 5% discount when customers use their MataCard, Lennon noted. The Office of the Registrar lists a wealth of tips on where and how to use your MataCard.

Did You Know?

CSUN students can use MataCard to get free or discounted tickets for Matador Athletics and performing arts events, to check out or reserve books and other resources at the University Library, to visit the Klotz Student Health Center — and much more. Faculty and staff can use their MataCard for many of the same benefits!
