CSUN’s plan to promote civic engagement and increase voter registration among students has received a perfect score from California’s top elections official.

CSUN ACT Now organizes activities designed to inform and inspire students to take part in the democratic process. Every two years, California State Universities and Community Colleges must submit a Civic and Voter Empowerment Action Plan to the California Secretary of State’s office, which oversees all of California’s federal and state elections. The plan includes information about campus events and outlines the group’s goals for increasing voter registration and voter turnout. Yi Ding, CSUN ACT Now director— through the university’s Office of Community Engagement — wrote the plan that was submitted to Secretary of State Shirley Weber.

“This recognition is a testament to the collaboration of students, faculty, staff, administrators and community partners, all working together to amplify youth voices through CSUN Act Now,” said Ding.

In the report, Ding noted that the campus group’s goal is to increase voter registration by 10% — up to 83%. Another goal outlined in the report is a 3% increase in CSUN student voter participation — which would take that to above 90%.
