Art and Carol Altshiller, who have supported CSUN’s Department of Physics and Astronomy since 1998, recently endowed a scholarship to boost the program’s students for years to come.
Each year since 2019, one student in the program has received a $1,000 scholarship from the couple. The endowed gift to the College of Science and Mathematics ensures this support will continue.
The Altshillers are distinguished and award-winning educators whose impact is felt throughout the region. Carol served the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) as a physical education teacher and coach. She established boys’ and girls’ golf teams at Alexander Hamilton High School and the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies.
Arthur ’71 worked as an electronics engineer in the aerospace industry before earning his master’s in physics and a teaching credential from CSUN in 1971. He went on to teach physics, science and math for LAUSD and the Los Angeles Community College District. He stays connected to CSUN through the Physics Colloquium series. The endowed scholarship is important for educating and training the next generation of students in his field, he said.
