In case you missed it, you can still catch Olivia Rodrigo’s guest DJ takeover of member-supported 88.5-FM, The SoCal Sound on Monday, June 22, on the station’s website.

The record-breaking, Grammy Award winner took over the “More Music in the Morning” — usually hosted by The SoCal Sound’s own legendary on-air personality Nic Harcourt + Jet. In addition to announcing the Daisy Chain Fields Festival, an all-woman-fronted festival that she is personally curating for Aug. 29 in Irvine, Rodrigo demonstrated the power of women in rock and roll.

“As a SoCal native, Olivia sees the value in community radio and how important it is to foster localism and community spirit,” said SoCal Sound Program Director Marc “Mookie” Kaczor. “We’re honored she chose The SoCal Sound to make her big festival announcement. She also gave us one hell of a radio show. It’s no secret so many artists yearn to be public radio DJs.”

SoCal Sound General Manager Patrick Osburn pointed out that Kaczor champions female artists with the station’s monthly feature “Women Crush Wednesday

“We have to think that was a driving reason why Olivia Rodrigo’s camp chose The Socal Sound to be partners in today’s big announcement,” Osburn said.

Rodrigo’s one-hour playlist included a who’s who of women rockers, including “No Aloha” by The Breeders; “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan; “Building a Mystery” by Sarah MacLachlan; “Denial is a River” by Doechii; “I Think I’m Paranoid” by Garbage; “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs; “Leather and Lace” by Stevie Nicks’ and “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill. She concluded with her own “Stupid Song.”
