CSUN officials are planning a memorable virtual experience for commencement celebrations for the classes of both 2019-20 and 2020-21. These ceremonies will take place in May 2021.

CSUN Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students William Watkins confirmed the university’s plans in a message emailed to students eligible to participate from the classes of 2019-20 and 2020-21.

“It is my great privilege to extend a heartfelt congratulations to you upon achieving this important milestone,” Watkins wrote. “You have or will be completing your degree during truly extraordinary times. I commend you for your resilience and celebrate your Matador spirit during even these challenging times.”

The university explored numerous options and determined that virtual ceremonies would be the safest option for commencement this spring.

The virtual commencement events will include a main, all-university ceremony to recognize distinguished graduates and confer all degrees, as well as individual college ceremonies where the name of every participating graduate will be read aloud while their individually customized photo tile is displayed on screen.
