California State University, Northridge has once again earned a top rating from the nation’s largest organization that tracks sustainability efforts in higher education.

CSUN has been awarded a Gold seal from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) which reviews colleges and universities as part of its Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). Higher education institutions submit highly detailed reports that cover sustainability efforts throughout their campuses; the areas of review include operations, academics, campus engagement, diversity and affordability. Austin Eriksson, director of energy and sustainability said CSUN received 80.73 points this year from reviewers, making it the top-ranked campus in the CSU system.

“Achieving the AASHE STARS Gold rating for a 4th time is a monumental milestone for CSUN and a testament to our university-wide commitment to sustainability,” Eriksson said. “This recognition reflects the collective efforts of countless departments and individuals who came together to provide data, implement initiatives, and prioritize a sustainable future. It truly showcases the strength of our community when we work toward a shared vision.”

The Princeton Review uses STARS ratings in their “Green Colleges” report. There are currently 357 universities around the world with a STARS rating of platinum, gold, silver or bronze, or recognition as a “STARS Reporter.”
