
Update, 11:40 p.m.: CSUN Men’s Basketball fell behind early and could not catch a hot-shooting UC Irvine team down the stretch in a 93-78 defeat in a Big West semifinals game. Senior Josiah Davis, the Big West Player of the Year, finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds in defeat.
CSUN finishes the season 20-14.

Senior guard Larry Hughes II scored a career-high 34 points as CSUN Men’s Basketball came from behind to defeat UC San Diego 80-70 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Big West Championship tournament Thursday in Henderson, Nevada.
The fourth-seeded Matadors advance to the Big West semifinals for the first time since 2014 and will play top-seeded UC Irvine on Friday. The winner will play Saturday for the conference championship.
The Big West champion earns a berth in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament — known as March Madness.
CSUN last won a conference championship in 2009, leading to a hard-fought loss to Memphis in the NCAA tournament.
Tip-off for the semifinal is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+. Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister have the audio broadcast call at GoMatadors.com/Radio.
CSUN has now won 20 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1999-2001.
Hughes’ 34 points are the most points scored by a Matador in the program’s history at the Big West tournament.
