One will be able to hear the cheers emanating from the center of California State University, Northridge’s campus from blocks away later this month as thousands of graduates cross the stage in front of CSUN’s iconic University Library as the university celebrates its 2026 commencement.

An estimated 11,355 students — including 9,250 undergraduates, 2,019 masters’ degree candidates and 86 doctoral candidates — are eligible to participate in the exercises scheduled to begin Saturday, May 9, with Honors Convocation, and end Monday, May 18, with the last of seven commencement ceremonies. All eight events will take place on the University Library Lawn, located in the heart of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

CSUN’s 2025 commencement ceremonies will be live streamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/CalStateNorthridge or on Facebook at https://facebook.com/calstatenorthridge.

Honors Convocation, the first of CSUN’s graduation celebrations, is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.

The first formal commencement ceremony of 2026 will be for graduates of the College of Sciences and Mathematics and the Andrew J. Anagnost College of Engineering and Computer Science. It is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15.

On Saturday, May 16, at 8 a.m., graduates of the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics will take part in the second commencement ceremony. 

The third ceremony will take place later on May 16 at 6 p.m. for the graduates of the Micheal D. Eisner College of Education and the Departments of Communication Disorders and Sciences, Child and Adolescent Development and Nursing in the College of Health and Human Development.

The fourth ceremony is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, for the graduates of the Departments of Anthropology, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Sector Management, Psychology, Sustainability, and Urban Studes and Planning in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Graduates from the remaining departments in that college — Africana Studies, Criminology and Justice Studies, Geography, History, Sociology and Social Work — and the College of Humanities will graduate at 6 p.m. on May 17. 

The sixth ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 18, for the graduates of the Departments of Family and Consumers Sciences, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Assistive Technology Studies and Human Services, Physical Therapy, Recreation and Tourism Management, and Environmental and Occupational Health in the College of Health and Human Development

During the ceremony an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters will be awarded to nationally recognized peacemaker and community safety advocate Aqeela Sherrills. Sherrills brokered the historic 1992 peace agreement between the Bloods and Crips in Watts. He is co-founder of the Community Based Public Safety Collective, a collective of experts in building neighborhood leadership to advance safety, and The Reverence Project, which serves the Watts, Compton, and Willowbrook communities by offering healing services, safety advocacy and community-leadership training. 

The seventh and final commencement ceremony for 2026 will take place at 6 p.m. on May 18 for the graduates of the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication.
